At the end of a steep, windy street near where I live is a very narrow lane that serves just one row of houses along the shore of L ake Washington . This road— “street” does not sound right—has outlets to the rest of the neighborhood at both ends, but in between is only wide enough to admit one car at a time and has no cross streets , and if you encounter another car going the other way, somebody has to find an unoccupied driveway to back into in order to resolve the impasse. This narrow road is a nice place for people to walk their dogs because it has so little risk of other traffic, and features the peaceful sound of the lake lapping at the shore.
Anyway, some inveterate optimist and/or masochist who lives along it has THIS in their driveway:
I’m pretty sure they can only get this out one direction, and even then it would be just insanely tight. After that, they have to climb a steep, windy street with lots of blind corners without leveling any oncoming traffic or, like, moms with strollers, and then traverse a long straightaway with no sidewalks that is also probably not wide enough for this guy to comfortably pass an oncoming truck. I really, really do not look forward to (inevitably) encountering him coming the other way on the windy part someday.
Sometimes I think I’m an idiot for commuting in a car that gets whatever gas mileage my C63 gets (bad!), but this guy...this guy is a much bigger idiot than me. The things we do for automotive love, amirite?

Go big or go home.
Well, rather go big and don’t leave home, in this case ...

At first I truly thought the owner must just like to sit in it and make engine noises with his mouth...but then I realized it would have to move to let the normal truck behind it out!
Plus, I later s aw it pass the corner of my street once, so clearly it gets to stretch its legs occasionally.

I don’t think “jealous” is the right word. “Intrigued,” maybe.

Despite what they look like, a n H1 isn’t any wider than a dually pickup truck, or a UPS truck, or a garbage truck, all of which I would assume to travel down that street on a daily basis

It’s only the first of the 5 stages :
intrigue
anger
bargaining
depression
jealousy

it’s a Cooper S. No idea why they opted for a manual and then decided they wanted to bulletproof a goddamn mini. From a weight management perspective it’s not such a stupid idea though... in such a small car the bulletproofing adds much less weight than, say, a Grand Cherokee.

I didn’t say it wouldn’t fit. What I said was it would be a tight squeeze, and what I implied is that this would be a bigger pain in the ass than most people would choose for themselves in a personal vehicle if they lived on a very narrow road at the end of another narrow, windy street ! The fact that as part of his job the garb age man has to carefully drive a wide-ass garbage truck down a narrow street once a week does not strike me as terribly relevant. This isn’t Montana—there aren’t very many dually pickups around, at least not in the city, and none of these houses have yards because they’re so tight against the lake, so there aren’t any landscapers. Maybe an occasional work truck for contractors, but that would be it. It’s also not the suburbs, so most families don’t drive gigantic SUVs-- mostly practical Japanese crossovers and sedans, plus the occasional Mustang or Porsche or whatever. The Hummer guy’s Silverado is probably the second biggest car on that street

I suppose that’s true, but those are still going to be 189 very tired horsies trying to haul that thing around!

My old house had a very narrow cul-de-sac, there were only two of us on it. The garbage service had a special compact truck (like a slightly larger suburban maybe? F350 sized?) just for like 10 houses in the neighborhood that the normal truck could not hit
